Two animated feature films with a score by Diego Navarro will have their national premiere at the 57th edition of the prestigious Sitges International Fantasic Film Festival

Tomorrow, Friday 4th and Sunday, 6th October, the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival will host the national premieres of two international animated co-productions with original music by composer Diego Navarro.

“Black Butterflies”, a 2D animated film directed by filmmaker David Baute, is an ambitious filmic project inspired by real women, which offers us a journey from Africa, the Caribbean and Asia towards an uncertain future for all humanity. Climate change impacts the lives of Tanit, Valeria and Shaila, three women from very different parts of the planet but with something in common: all three lose everything due to the effects of global warming, and are forced to migrate.

The original score, composed, orchestrated and produced by Diego Navarro, is a profound journey through the cultures of our three protagonists. It is a soundtrack with a markedly intimate tone, with a deep emotional charge due to the transcendent message that the film sends the viewer. With the exception of composer and performer Diego Navarro, the core musicians in the musical production are women, as a clear nod to the story. Based around a string quartet, the solo vocalist and many other ethnic African and Indian folklore voices, this score is based on a large number of instruments characteristic of the Caribbean, Africa and India. The piano, electronic programming and an abundant percussion section complete one of the most personal scores ever written by the composer.

The film will have its National Premiere tomorrow, October 4th, in the Official Section of the Sitges Festival. It is a production of Tinglado Film, Ikiru Films, Anangu Grup and the Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals, S.A., in co-production with Tunche Films (Panama), and with the participation of TVPC, 3CAT and Mogambo, with funding from the ICAA and with the support of ICEC, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Island Council of Tenerife. Rubén Blades is the author of the film’s original song. Black Butterflies Sitges Link:

SuperKlaus, a 3D animated feature film directed by Steven Majaury and Andrea Sebastiá, is an action-adventure comedy aimed at family audiences. After a strong blow to the head, Santa Claus wakes up believing he is SuperKlaus, the superhero from a popular film series. This unleashes chaos at the North Pole and Fafnir, a greedy toymaker, takes advantage of the situation to take control of Santa’s workshop. Only Billie, a clever and brave girl, her robot C.A.R.L. and elf Leo, can thwart his evil plans and save Christmas before it is too late.

The score composed, orchestrated and conducted by Diego Navarro, was performed by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra at the legendary Smecky Studios. This is a musical production of eminently symphonic character, with a score full of emotions that exudes magic, comedy, action and adventure.

The film is an international Canada – Spain co-production produced by Capitán Araña, 3 Doubles Producciones Smarted Films AIE and PVP Media. SuperKlaus Sitges link:
